Total raised as of 5/4/10 - $29,496

Update 4/18/10

Firstly, I want to express our gratitude and appreciation for the generosity to everyone who has contributed so far. We have raised almost $25,000 to date. A fund raising event sponsored by the folks at The Loveland Ski Area on April 11th generated nearly $8,000 of that total. Please keep the Loveland Ski Area in mind for your future ski outings.

Hank has been making progress. He has regained some mobility in his arms, can bend at the torso, and is beginning to show some signs of mobility with his hands. He can, with some assistance, take a meal using a specialized fork. He continues to be confined to his wheel chair but can drive the chair using a joy-stick controller.

An in-home physical therapist has been hired and visits twice a week to provide PT activities. In addition, several of Hank's ski patrol colleagues also provide physical therapy and personal care during the week. Hank is now evaluating an in-home physical therapy machine which will provide exercise for his arms and legs. MotoMedAt a cost of $8,600 the MotoMed is expensive and not covered by insurance. Your donations will provide the funding for the device. Additionally, an adaptive van has been acquired providing Hank some transportation. Hank rides as a passenger with an interlock mechanisim keeping his wheelchair in place.

Hank was able to enjoy an outing to Winter Park utilizing a sit-ski under the guidance of the Winter Park handicap program. If you spent any time with Hank, you would come away with the knowledge of someone who, everyday of his life, has an attitude that is nothing short of inspirational. His attitude and work ethic earned a nickname of "Hammerin Hank" with the Loveland Ski Patrol. His desire and willingness to overcome his challenges keeps "The Hammer" and the rest of us going.

The expenses continue unabated with in-home care costing Hank $300 per day out-of-pocket. As you can well imagine, this has put a severe strain on finances. However we remain optimistic. Hank and the Friends of Hank patrons appreciate the continuing generosity, thoughts, and prayers.
